About these prices
How do you work out these prices?
Every night we look at what each model has actually sold for on eBay over the last 60 days, take off the costs of selling it on, and set our offer from that. For some models we set the price ourselves and review it regularly. The table on this page is the same set of prices the instant quote uses.
Why do the prices change?
Because the second-hand market does. When a MacBook starts selling for more, our offer goes up the next morning, and when it sells for less, it comes down. Once you get a quote, that price is held for 14 days whatever the market does.
Do the box and charger make a difference?
Yes. The prices in the table are for the MacBook itself. Including the original box and charger adds £15, and the charger without the box adds £5 — the questions ask what you've got.
What do the grades mean?
We grade the screen and the body separately, and the lower of the two is the grade — a cracked screen on a perfect body is heavily worn. Like new means no marks at all. Light wear means light marks on the body, or light scratches on the screen you can't see when it's on. Worn means noticeable dents or scuffs, or scratches you can see. Heavily worn means heavy damage, cracks or missing parts, a cracked or chipped screen, dead pixels, or a MacBook that works but has minor faults. On a MacBook Air or Pro the battery health also limits the grade: at 80–89%, or if you don't know it, the best grade is light wear, and below 80% it's worn. A good battery never raises the grade. You choose the answers in the questions and we check them when the MacBook arrives.
What stops you buying it?
We can only buy a MacBook you own outright and can fully reset. Sign out of your Apple ID and turn off Find My before you send it — we can't buy one that's still locked to an account. It can't be on finance or reported lost or stolen, and it has to power on and work: one that won't turn on or has a major fault can't get an online price.
Is the 15-inch Air the same price as the 13-inch?
Yes — the table is one price for both sizes.
Is the price guaranteed?
It's confirmed when we inspect the MacBook. If it matches what you told us, you get the price you were quoted. If it doesn't, we explain why and offer a revised price, and you can say no and have it sent back.
